Join your Favorite Drilling Enterprise on a harrowing Journey through the Inner Stratum! Excavate away and be the first one to reach Level 100! Dig up resources, repair malfunctioning Equipment and bear witness to totally normal anomalies. While you manage drills and chutes on your monitors you must juggle repairs and lower yourself into the depths to reach the company’s final goal: The mysterious Level 100.

WARNING: Dear Employee, sadly we could not get the game working completely in time (for Ludum Dare 57)! But there is a little bit to explore and play around and we hope you will take a look and leave some feedback, as we plan to continue the development!

Chapter I: The getting started 101 ABC

A – stands for Alignment, align your seat with your Workstation and yourself with its merry Contents

B – stands for… we are, of course, just kidding.

You are situated in what we call a “Room” this “Room” contains various commodities for you to use to fulfill your manmade duties!

You are tasked to drill a singular hole to the depth of 100 Levels. Afterwards you will hop into the elevator and lower yourself towards the embrace of the depths. All to raise your self-esteem and our coffers!

To do this you get to utilize multiple chutes – your just need to drill one of them deep enough!

A selection of things to look forward to:

The drills will get damaged, and you will have to repair them!

The chutes will contain resources that you get to extract!

You will be the first to find out what effect this tremendous depth has on the human body!

Chapter II: The Workstation and YOU

Aboard your Station is a variety of tools at your disposal. So, get started, Captain!

To set the sails of progress into the Sunset you will find your digital Rudder. The computers display a variety of statistics and allow you to manage the drills, elevator and everything that comes attached to your winch – the so-called modules.

Unwind yourself and watch your progress, this place is all about strategy and management:

See your progress and the Chutes in detail interesting spots such as resources will be displayed here.

Get an overview of your active modules and their Heat and Damage.

Configure drill speeds.

And decide what modules you want to cycle to different chutes and what to repair.

Chapter III: Drilling in the Age of Repairs

We care about emissions; we care about green planets and all and we definitely care about you.

Every Level you drill away will slightly damage your Drill, the deeper you get the harder the crust will become, and the more damage drilling will cause.

The faster your drill spins and whirls the rocks away, chipping at the very core of existence, the more heat will build up. The deeper you get; the less heat will dissipate on its own. Heat exceeding the first quarter of your display will damage the drill over time.

But worry not! Repair is on the way. Raise your drills up and move them into the repair bays using your Workstation, stand up and take a look at what’s wrong. Maybe change a fuse or two.

Remember: Never despair, always repair!

Chapter IV: The elevating Chute Experience

You can use your Elevator module and lower yourself into the chutes by stepping inside and pressing the right buttons. What presses Up goes up and what comes up comes down in history!

Open your door and take a look at an empty wall staring back at you at worst, or your next motherlode at best! Get those resources to optimize your workflow.

Scrap will let you repair your drills in an instant!

Coal can be used to send your drills on overdrive, making them nearly twice as fast without causing any additional heat!

Chapter V: In Case of Anomalies

You may find objects that can’t be mined by the drills, those must be raised with your winch in order to unblock the chute. To do this you have to empty the Chute from any modules and lower it without the latter to grab it and bring it up to you!

You may have heard of mysterious happenings, haven’t you? “Anomalies”?

The good news is, there are none! You are completely safe!

The bad news is: someone lied to you. Simple as.
